St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador – May 8, 2025 – The Prescott and Russell Development Corporation was proud to participate in the 2025 Community Futures National Conference, held from May 4 to 6 in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, brought together over 900 community and economic development LEADERS, business professionals from across Canada. Organized by the Community Futures Network of Canada (CFNC), this event provided a platform for sharing best practices, fostering collaboration, and addressing the unique challenges faced by rural and remote economies.
The conference featured a series of workshops, keynote speeches, and networking opportunities designed to equip participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to drive sustainable economic growth in their communities. Discussions centered on topics such as strategic community planning, business development, and the importance of local leadership in economic resilience.
The Community Futures Program, which has been supporting economic development in primarily rural areas across Canada for over 40 years, continues to play a crucial role as LEADER in fostering community resilience. Through its network of 267 non-profit organizations, the program provides small business loans, training, economic development and events for individuals looking to start, grow, franchise, or sell a business.
